Build upon your knowledge by getting to know the platform that runs 60% of websites with a content management system and 25% of the web at large (source)! You will learn the basics and best practices of using WordPress and customizing themes, as well as launching your own site. This accelerated class is for students who have completed Web Development Essentials or who can demonstrate working knowledge of and background in front-end development.
In this class, we will create a child theme using Twenty Sixteen for a website of your choice. You will work on your WordPress website on your local machine using MAMP, and use CSS to customize the display of the WordPress theme. Your site can be anything you like! In the videos I chose to make a website for one of my favorite bars in New York. Anything that has a few pages, a blog, and primarily static content will be perfect.
The only requirement is that you understand the basics of HTML/CSS and the general concepts behind web development. If you aren't quite ready, you might like to check out the Web Development Essentials class!
